Artist

I am an upside-down/backwards artist. I create stories in shimmering colors on glass bowls, vases and plates. And I do it all in reverse (see Technique).

My art career is also upside-down and backwards. I had a 25-year career as an award-winning researcher and writer—with a PhD in sociology and a specialty in the study of aging. I have written books and directed studies—for a number of years I was a university professor.

While I was a researcher, most of my professional colleagues knew that art was my passion-on-the-side because they often saw me sketching in meetings and seminars—I did hundreds of sketches of people sitting, standing, talking. Now these figures are on my glass bowls, vases and plates—people, who never met in their lives, are side by side in my fanciful designs.

I have been fortunate—my art has been accepted in high quality shows, exhibits, and galleries—including the American Craft Council Shows of Fine Craft in St Paul, MN and Sarasota, FL, the Minnesota Craft Festivals, the Frederick Weisman Museum Shop, Hopkins Center for the Arts, the Fine Arts Exhibits at the Minnesota State Fair, White Oak Gallery, Frank Stone Gallery, and others.
