Star Tribune—January 25, 2006: “Artists grow old on their own terms”
My exhibit about aging, “Old Lady Art: Aging with Indignity” at the Hopkins Center for the Arts, with my friend Bette Globus Goodman, was featured in a cover story.

“Artists and close friends Lucy Fischer, 61, and Bette Globus-Goodman, 71, couldn't agree at first on a title for their joint exhibit. Fischer, the funny one, proposed "Old Lady Art." Globus-Goodman, the serious one, hated it. "It meant I was an old lady!" she said… Don't let the title fool you - both women are accomplished artists and serious about their work, which addresses complex issues such as loss, identity, mortality and prejudice against old people, specifically women.

… Fischer takes more of a humorous approach to the physical ailments of old age. One of her works, "The Breakdown of Movable Parts," features metal objects screwed onto the body of a woman painted on Plexiglass. Another, "The Sisterhood of Sleeplessness," is a collection of glass plates on which she has painted women looking out their windows at night…”

Lilith Magazine—Fall 2006: “How Do Women Define the Sacred?”
My needlework tallit (prayer shawl) was featured in the national magazine, Lilith and I was also interviewed for the story.

“On my atara [tallit neckpiece], joyful women are dancing in the waves of the sea, their artms held high and wide. The text is from my favorite morning prayer: “If our mouths were filled with song as the sea, and our eyes shown like the sun…” The tallit corners are an homage to Jewish women’s domestic ties.
For the tzitzit [the knotted fringes], I went to a shop in Mea She’arim and there were two kinds, one cheaper and one more expensive. I asked the saleswoman what the difference was and she answered that the more expensive ones had been touched only by men. ‘I’ll take the cheaper one,’ I said.”
